Project Overview
Working with sub-contractor Essex & Suffolk Water, Dalkia were engaged to complete site set up and enabling works, prior to completing excavations by mechanical means.
With two new buildings being established at Sizewell C and as part of the scope of works within the relocated facilities programme, it had become necessary to reroute the existing water mains feed to Sizewell A Power Station.
Working with sub-contractor Essex & Suffolk Water, Dalkia were engaged to complete site set up and enabling works, prior to completing excavations by mechanical means.
Working across both Sizewell A & B, it was essential to develop a central laydown area for both materials and equipment as well as suitable welfare facilities for the operatives involved with the project. The project also involved ground sampling and the use of a directional drilling rig to bore underground to allow insertion of the newly formed 225mm HDPE water pipe into locations exactly specified within construction drawings. Pipes were then subsequently pulled through the previously formed directional drilling boreholes.
The installation was successfully completed and after rigorous testing procedures, we reinstated the surrounding areas, as well as demobilising all equipment sympathetically to the local environment. Being acutely aware of the environmental considerations of the project, studies were carried out to assess for endangered species in the local woodland, making necessary arrangements for safe relocation of habitats where needed.
