Preparing the site

We performed the enabling works forming Phase 3 of the new build/refurbishment upgrade of the existing basement, plant room and sorting offices, ground floor extensions, west and north car parks and Block G new build. The works included the design, supply, strip out, installation and commissioning of the MEP services, including general power, lighting, HV alterations and LV supplies with standby generator, smoke extract systems, sprinklers systems, fire systems, domestic services, above-ground drainage, VRV, heating and cooling systems.

Operational 24/7

Mount Pleasant, the UK’s busiest sorting office, had to remain open and operational 24/7. Working closely with the Royal Mail team, checking in and communicating daily, allowed us to plan effectively. Mondays and early mornings were quieter, so we programmed work accordingly, planning around small pockets, sometimes just 10m2, to ensure minimal disruption for smooth operating conditions.

Open over lockdown

The original handover date was critical for the client, even during the onset of Covid-19. We kept the site open during the lockdown, drawing on our collaborative approach across the delivery partners to enable the review of safety and method statements and implement safe working practices. After entering into a PCSA contract in July 2018 for the scope of works, with an on-site date of January 2019 and a lengthy installation period, we handed over in January 2021.

Testimonial

Andy Burger never stops thinking. On this job Dalkia could say ‘that’s not what we thought’ about lots of issues, but Andy never does that, he is PRE-proactive and never stops and Maria (Gabaldon – Dalkia Project Manager) as well – very well rounded.

We have a real understanding of the client’s operation. It’s a live building and the post doesn’t stop. Another level of complexity and collaboration. The client has huge time for Andy and Maria.
