Dalkia Secures Greenheys Contract at Manchester Science Park

Dalkia has been awarded a contract by Willmott Dixon to deliver the design and mechanical and electrical services for the Greenheys project, a cutting-edge development by Bruntwood SciTech.

Scheduled for completion in 2026, Greenheys will provide 131,000 sq. ft. of highly specialist lab space tailored for diagnostics, genomics, biotech, and precision medicine. Situated at Manchester Science Park – one of the UK’s leading science and technology communities – the development will enhance the region’s reputation as a hub for pioneering research and innovation.

Spanning six floors, Greenheys will feature a range of CL2 laboratories and is designed with a strong focus on sustainability. The project targets net zero carbon during construction and in shared spaces during operation, with plans to minimize embodied carbon and operate on 100% electric energy.

Upon completion, the building will become the UK headquarters for UK Biobank, home to the world’s most comprehensive biomedical database. This state-of-the-art facility will support groundbreaking advancements in health and genetics research, strengthening collaborations across academia, business, and the NHS.

The building will host cutting edge innovations including the installation of the latest-generation robotic freezer, which boasts revolutionary capabilities to store and retrieve up to 20 million biological samples – four times faster than current industry standards.

Tim Wilson, Operations Director for Dalkia Engineering, commented, “We are thrilled to be part of this prestigious project in one of the UK’s most established science and technology hubs, further reinforcing our expertise in this sector. Collaborating once again with Willmott Dixon is fantastic, building on the success of our work together on The Spindles Redevelopment in Oldham.”
