Dalkia’s design will replace the hospital’s ageing steam energy infrastructure with a low temperature heat network using heat pump technology, along with roof and cavity wall insulation to boost overall efficiency. The project is expected to save the hospital around £100,000 in energy costs per year. Trafford Hospital is set to be the first NHS hospital to upgrade its entire energy system, within a live environment, to achieve total energy decarbonisation.

This major project will make a significant contribution to Greater Manchester’s move to Carbon Net Zero ahead of the national deadline. This project is predicted to reduce the hospital’s scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 92% by 2040. Construction is set to start in Autumn 2024 with estimated completion by Spring 2026.
