Approach
The project has been delivered in phases:
Phase 1 – 2016 – replacement of the existing fire alarm system in four buildings
Refitting four University buildings during the summer semester break, with all buildings remaining in use during the day, meant undertaking night works to minimise disruption for students and university staff.
Phase 2 & 3 – 2017- 2018 – replacement of fire alarm system on additional six buildings.
The upgrade works were undertaken in a live university environment with over 10,000 staff and students going about their daily business. To ensure fire safety, the exiting fire alarms had to be kept online at all times, whilst undertaking the replacement project.
Dalkia were engaged for an additional scope of work including the LED lighting replacement in the Learning Resource Centre and an air conditioning plant replacement across the campus. We recommended upgrading the existing lighting to improve the look, energy efficiency and to reduce maintenance costs. Designing and installing a wireless control system in collaboration with Phillips, we installed over 600 new lights.
