Are you an experienced operational leader with a strong commercial mindset and a passion for delivering excellence in complex, highly regulated environments?
We are seeking a Business Unit Director to lead our Nuclear Facilities Management operations across the North of the UK. This is a high-impact leadership role, overseeing multiple sites, large-scale teams, and a significant P&L-playing a critical part in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality services to our clients.
About the Role
As Business Unit Director, you will take full responsibility for a portfolio of 3–5 nuclear sites, leading 500–700 colleagues and managing a £50m P&L.
You will shape and deliver long-term strategy, drive operational excellence, and build strong client partnerships-ensuring sustainable success for both the business and our customers.
What You’ll Be Doing
Leadership & Strategy
- Define and deliver long-term operational strategy across multiple sites
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture where teams truly work better together
- Identify opportunities for growth, service improvement, and contract expansion
- Support bids and strategic business development activity
Financial Performance
- Own revenue, margin, and profitability targets
- Provide robust commercial oversight, including forecasting and cost control
- Take full responsibility for financial performance across the business unit
- Ensure alignment between delivery models and supporting business cases
Operational Excellence
- Ensure safe, consistent, and high-quality FM service delivery
- Lead service transformation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Oversee contract mobilisation across sites
- Embed a people-first approach in all operational decision-making
Client Relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders
- Act as executive sponsor for key accounts
- Partner with clients to deliver innovative, value-driven solutions
- Support long-term contract retention and growth
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop senior operational leaders
- Build inclusive, high-performing teams
- Drive engagement, talent development, and succession planning
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Champion a strong health, safety, and wellbeing culture
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory and governance standards
- Keep a people-first culture at the heart of all operations
- Promote sustainable and responsible ways of working
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Senior leadership experience within Facilities Management or a similar service-led environment
- Strong P&L ownership and commercial acumen
- Experience managing large, multi-site operational teams
- Excellent stakeholder and client relationship management skills
- Data-driven decision-making capability (e.g. Power BI)
- Knowledge of CAFM, ERP, and financial reporting systems
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Experience within nuclear or other highly regulated industries
- Experience working in unionised or complex workforce environments
- NEBOSH qualification or relevant professional membership (e.g. IWFM)
