Summary of Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic & driven Engineer to join our Energy Business, to test and commission electrical Automation and Control Systems: from minor modifications and additions through to complete new and replacement systems. This role is suitable for existing Commissioning Engineers or Test Engineers with a desire to move into site commissioning activities. The suitable candidate must be able to communicate effectively with the customer, interpret designs (including schedules, drawings etc.), have a good understanding of system engineering design and be prepared to be involved in and lead site visits for the purpose of installation & commissioning work. The suitable candidate would also be required to contribute to the creation and development of test & commissioning documentation. This position would suit someone who has a good grounding in electrical engineering and automation with experience in test/commissioning techniques, who is keen to work on site and is keen to learn and develop new skills as part of an experienced and committed team.  This role will be based between our Stone Head Office and Client Sites around the UK.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out site acceptance testing and commissioning activities in line with approved test documentation.
  • Carry out and support factory acceptance testing in line with approved test documentation.
  • Technical supervision of installation works on client sites.
  • Ensure installation, test & commissioning work is carried out in line with agreed technical procedures, methods and standards.
  • Produce, collate & manage the project commissioning file
  • Control of drawings and schematics and Mark-up of these where changes are identified as required through test and commissioning activities
  • Development and review of commissioning and test documentation.
  • Deployment of configuration files to SCADA BCU’s, RTU’s, PLC’s, IED’s etc. and Network devices (Ethernet Switches etc.) including subsequent verification
  • Support the preparation of site equipment and materials.
  • Manage, maintain and control commissioning spares and test equipment.
  • Responsible for the control LOTO in line with safe working procedures including permits where required.
  • To carry out fault finding on systems, ensuring these are both documented and resolved.

 

Candidate Profile:

  • Suitably qualified or experienced in an Electrical Engineering discipline
  • Good understanding of Test & Commissioning methodology
  • Experience in fault finding on electrical & electronic systems
  • Understanding of communication networks and differing communication protocols and media types utilised (i.e. Ethernet over fibre optic, serial copper, etc.)
  • Understand electrical safety and the control of isolations (LOTO)
  • Computer literate with respect to the production of documentation (Microsoft Office)
  • Computer literate with respect to the deployment of configuration files & verification to electrical devices
  • Experience of writing, developing & contributing to Test & Commissioning specifications & plans
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings (General Arrangement, Schematics, Wiring Diagrams etc.)
  • Hold BS7671 18th Edition and C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing Qualifications
  • Experience of working on National Grid Substations
  • Experience of Substation Secondary Systems
  • Experience of industrial supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems
  • Excellent communication and team skills.
  • Structured and analytical way of working.
  • Ability to Lead/work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to deadlines and to motivate others to achieve the same.
  • Be flexible in methods of working to achieve best outcomes.
  • Full UK drivers’ licence and willingness to travel.
