Role Characteristics:

Hinkley Point C is the UK’s first new build nuclear power station in a generation that is critical to the UK NetZero targets.

The Construction Design Lead (CDM 2015) is responsible for supporting the design process across all stages of construction projects, ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 regulations. This role bridges the gap between design and construction, ensuring that health and safety considerations are embedded from concept through to completion.

Accountabilities:
As a Construction Design Lead and CDM 2015, you will be responsible for supporting the design process across all phases of construction projects, ensuring that all design activities are compliant with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. You will be required to identify and mitigate design-related health and safety risks from the earliest stages. Your role involves Supporting multidisciplinary design teams, supporting design deliverables in line with project timelines, and ensuring that all design outputs are technically sound, buildable, and aligned with client requirements. You will support the integration of digital tools such as BIM, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and ensure that all design information is clearly communicated to construction teams.

Key Deliverables:

Design Leadership & Coordination:

    • Coordinate input from architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure cohesive and integrated design solutions.
    • Chair regular design team meetings and workshops to drive progress and resolve design issues.

CDM 2015 Compliance:

    • Identify and eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks during the design stage and ensure residual risks are communicated clearly.
    • Maintain and update the Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and Health and Safety File throughout the project lifecycle.

Risk Management:

    • Conduct design risk assessments and ensure that risk mitigation strategies are implemented and documented.
    • Collaborate with the Health & Safety team to ensure that all design decisions consider construction, maintenance, and end-user safety.

 Technical Oversight:

    • Review technical drawings, specifications, and reports to ensure compliance with project requirements and regulations.
    • Support to ensure designs are buildable, cost-effective, and meet sustainability and performance standards.
    • Support value engineering exercises without compromising design integrity or compliance.

Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Act as the main point of contact for Construction and Buildability including compliance with the CDM regulations queries from clients, contractors, and statutory authorities.
    • Support planning submissions, building control approvals, and other regulatory processes.
    • Support clear communication of design intent to site teams and subcontractors.

Digital & BIM Integration:

    • Promote the use of digital tools for clash detection, visualisation, and design validation.

Quality Assurance:

    • Support design quality assurance procedures in line with company and industry standards.
    • Support regular design audits and reviews to ensure continuous improvement and compliance.


Qualifications/Experience:

  • Essential:
    • Extensive experience in Construction & Project Management within the Nuclear or Engineering sectors.
    • Strong understanding and implementation of CDM Regulations and Risk Management Processes.
    • Proven experience in managing employer’s requirements and aligning them with project goals.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience with NEC – DMIC – FIDIC contracts and client liaison.
    • Formal qualifications in Construction Management or Engineering (e.g., a degree/HND or ONC in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management).
  • Chartered status or membership with a recognised engineering institution (e.g., ICE, IStructE, CIOB)

As Site Systems and Data Engineer you will ensure that software supporting site installation is deployed to ensure successful execution and completion of installation in accordance with client and statutory requirements.
