Design Manager

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Design Manager to become the driving technical force behind a regional portfolio of multi-disciplinary projects guiding them from concept through to completion with precision, innovation, and leadership.

As Design Manager, you won’t just manage projects you’ll own the technical vision. From RIBA Stages 2–6, you’ll lead engineering excellence across multiple projects, ensuring seamless coordination, outstanding quality, and successful delivery.

You’ll be the go-to expert, the final sign-off authority, and a trusted partner to both clients and internal teams.

 What You’ll Be Doing

 Lead with Authority

• Take full ownership of technical delivery across your regional portfolio
• Guide and mentor engineers while overseeing external design consultants
• Set the standard for quality, consistency, and innovation

Solve Complex Challenges

• Tackle high-level technical issues and drive solutions
• Collaborate with Centres of Excellence to validate cutting-edge approaches
• Escalate and resolve critical risks with confidence

Drive Governance & Excellence

• Ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and internal processes
• Maintain robust technical governance across all projects

Shape Commercial Success

• Integrate technical expertise into procurement and commercial decisions
• Review specifications, support tender evaluations, and mitigate risks
• Approve key technical changes as the designated authority

Keep Projects on Track

• Monitor design risks, programmes, and resource allocation
• Support teams in overcoming delays and delivering on time

Be the Client’s Trusted Advisor

• Act as the primary technical contact for clients
• Lead discussions, manage expectations, and build lasting relationships

Inspire & Develop Talent

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers
• Build a high-performing, collaborative engineering culture

What We’re Looking For

You’re an experienced, well-educated engineering leader with a passion for delivering complex projects and driving innovation.

• Proven background in M&E design within project delivery environments
• Strong experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and consultants
• Hands-on delivery of projects involving:
  • Large-scale heating systems (2–10MWt)
  • Heat pumps, boilers, CHP, chillers, AHUs, heat exchangers
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance across industrial projects
• Experience with energy efficiency solutions (solar PV, BMS, LED, building fabric upgrades)
• Strong project management and organisational skills
