Role Characteristics:

Hinkley Point C is the UK’s first new build nuclear power station in a generation that is critical to the UK NetZero targets.

All roles on the project require key behaviours which support the Zero Harm objective, a questioning attitude, and drive to uphold the standards of safety and quality required by this prestigious project. A committed strong work ethic is essential at all levels.

All candidates are expected to demonstrate their knowledge and experience where possible directly related to the criteria required for the role. It is acknowledged that previous Nuclear based experience will not always be possible, as such supporting with project research and how individual skills may be transferable will be important.

Summary of Role:

The Electrical Superintendent will provide leadership, oversight, and coordination of electrical installation and construction activities on a nuclear construction project. The role will ensure all work is delivered safely, to the highest quality standards, on time and within budget, in full compliance with UK legislation, British Standards, and Nuclear Site Licence conditions.

This position carries accountability for the supervision and performance of multiple teams led by first-line supervisors, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and productivity expectations.

 

Key responsibilities:

Health, Safety & Nuclear Safety Culture

  • Promote and maintain a strong health, safety, and nuclear safety culture across all activities.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and legal obligations.
  • Deliver safety briefs, toolbox talks, and pre-/post-job briefings.
  • Act as a visible champion for safety, ensuring best practice is consistently applied.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead and manage a team of 3–5 Supervisors, each responsible for 8–12 operatives.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance management for Supervisors and Operatives.
  • Maintain discipline, morale, and timekeeping within the workforce.
  • Ensure Supervisors and their teams receive technical instructions, resources, and training.
  • Develop and implement training plans for Supervisors and Operatives.

Planning & Coordination

  • Oversee and coordinate electrical construction activities in line with project schedules.
  • Develop and review fortnightly and monthly programmes, ensuring resources are deployed efficiently.
  • Monitor progress, report performance, and resolve issues affecting productivity.
  • Interface with other project teams (engineering, logistics, planning, scheduling) to align activity with the project critical path.
  • Ensure technical queries are resolved quickly through coordination with Engineering teams.

Quality & Compliance

  • Implement and ensure Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) are adhered to.
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with project specifications, British Standards, and nuclear regulatory requirements.
  • Produce and review method statements, risk assessments, and quality documentation.
  • Monitor and inspect works to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and time parameters.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement best practice.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Managers and supervisors carry legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of employees, contractors, and the public.
  • Ensure all individuals under your control are competent, briefed, and equipped to work safely.
  • Uphold environmental protection standards and comply with all site-specific nuclear requirements.

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Electrical Qualification to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation or evidenced Time-served electrical apprenticeship.
  • AM2 or FICA.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
  • Inspection & Testing Qualification (City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent level 3).
  • Client/Contractor National Safety Group (CCNSG) Safety Passport.
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS).
  • Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management or NECS Supervisory Programme.

 

Desirable qualifications and Experience:

  • Significant experience supervising multi-disciplined electrical teams in an industrial or nuclear environment.
  • Proven leadership of operatives and Supervisors on complex construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Commercial awareness relating to site productivity, hours, and wastage.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and engagement ability, with experience delivering briefings and reports.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across project teams and contractors.
