We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our nuclear operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of mechanical systems and equipment within highly regulated nuclear environments.
The role requires strict adherence to health, safety, quality, and nuclear compliance standards while delivering work to programme deadlines and engineering specifications.
They will be supported by a multi-disciplinary team at the various stages of the process including, Operations Manager, Contract Manager, Project Manager and Project Engineers.
Main responsibilities and key outcomes:
As the Mechanical Technician you will be reporting directly into the Project Engineers / Supervisors, you will be working on a portfolio of projects at various stages of delivery ensuring that project timescales, health & safety and standards are delivered first time, every time.
This is a full-time opportunity based on Dungeness Power Station office with travel required to other sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out mechanical fitting, assembly, maintenance, and overhaul activities on nuclear plant equipment and systems.
- Install, align, dismantle, and commission mechanical components including pumps, valves, pipework, turbines, heat exchangers, and rotating equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and maintenance procedures.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance and reactive repair works in accordance with site schedules.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with nuclear safety regulations, quality assurance procedures, and permit-to-work systems.
- Conduct inspections, fault finding, and testing of mechanical systems and report defects or deviations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and job documentation.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, supervisors, planners, and other trades to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Follow radiological protection procedures and comply with controlled area working requirements where applicable.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Capabilities to fulfil the role:
Skills:
- Previous experience working within the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sectors such as power generation, oil & gas, petrochemical, or defence.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and maintenance techniques.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Understanding of permit-to-work systems and safe systems of work.
- Excellent awareness of health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Educational Qualification Required (preferred):
- Time-served Mechanical Technician apprenticeship or recognized mechanical engineering qualification (City & Guilds / NVQ)
- CCNSG Safety Passport.
- IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
- Nuclear site clearance / security clearance (desirable).
- Experience with confined spaces, lifting operations, or working at height certifications.
*You will be required to complete EDF/ Dalkia training as part of this role.
Previous Work Experience Required:
- Experience within Power/ Oil & Gas/ Pharmaceutical Industry.
- Nuclear Experience Preferred
