Role Characteristics:

Hinkley Point C is the UK’s first new build nuclear power station in a generation that is critical to the UK NetZero targets.

All roles on the project require key behaviours which support the Zero Harm objective, a questioning attitude, and drive to uphold the standards of safety and quality required by this prestigious project. A committed strong work ethic is essential at all levels.

All candidates are expected to demonstrate their knowledge and experience where possible directly related to the criteria required for the role. It is acknowledged that previous Nuclear based experience will not always be possible, as such supporting with project research and how individual skills may be transferable will be important.

Summary of Role:

The Security Advisor at Hinkley Point C (HPC) plays a critical role in safeguarding the site by identifying, managing, and mitigating security risks across all construction activities. This role ensures full compliance with nuclear site licence conditions and supports the development and implementation of robust security management plans. Working closely with construction, engineering, contracted partners, and regulatory bodies, the Security Advisor acts as a key point of contact for operational security matters. They provide expert guidance, conduct Security Vulnerability Assessments, support incident prevention, and promote a strong and proactive security culture across the project. The position requires a high level of professionalism, strong stakeholder engagement, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex and evolving environment.

Main Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Security Risk Management

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate security risks affecting HPC construction activities.
  • Conduct Security Vulnerability Assessments (SVAs), Operational Requirements (ORs), and produce associated security documentation.
  • Provide clear and consistent security guidance to EDF Delivery Leads, Tier 1 contractors, and wider contracted partners.
  • Support the Senior EDF Security Management Team in threat assessments and the development of proportionate mitigation strategies.

Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure compliance with stringent nuclear site licence (NSL) conditions and organisational security policies.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor Security Management Plans (SMPs) in collaboration with Security Responsible Persons (SRPs).
  • Engage with the NNB Site Compliance Team to perform NSL boundary checks and support site-wide compliance activities.
  • Detail and coordinate security permit requirements in liaison with the NNB Permit Office.

Operational Security Management

  • Act as the day-to-day point of contact for all security matters within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor and oversee access control processes, physical security systems, and site protection measures.
  • Maintain effective HPC security arrangements in a complex, high‑risk environment.
  • Cover duties of other Security Risk Managers when required by the Security Delivery Manager.

Stakeholder Engagement and Advisory Support

  • Provide expert security advice to construction, engineering, and project delivery teams.
  • Maintain productive relationships with Tier 1 contractor SRPs and subcontractors, ensuring alignment with HPC security standards.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, regulators, and internal departments to maintain safe and continuous operations.
  • Attend coordination meetings and readiness reviews, challenging any security impacts on construction activities.

Training, Culture & Awareness

  • Deliver security awareness programmes, training, and briefings to HPC site personnel.
  • Support the induction process by providing security‑related content and promoting a positive security culture across all teams.
  • Encourage adoption of best practices and the implementation of crime reduction measures across the project workforce.

Continuous Improvement & Assurance

  • Evaluate contracted partners’ security arrangements and provide ongoing support to ensure adherence to SMP requirements.
  • Work with HPC construction partners to identify and implement best‑practice security solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of site-wide security processes, documentation, and operational readiness.

 

Minimum Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Minimum level 3-4 Qualification in a relevant field: 
    – Security Management
    – Health & Safety
    – Engineering / Technical / Discipline
  • Desirable:
    – NEBOSH Certificate
    – Level 3/4 Security Management Certification
  • 3–5+ years’ experience in a security-focused role within:
  • Strong understanding of:

    Highly regulated environments
    -Compliance frameworks and audit processes

 

Working Pattern of Attendance and Location(s):

  • Hinkley Point C Construction Site, Wick Moore Drove, Nr Bridgwater, Somerset, TA5 1UD
  • 5 Day week or 9 day fortnight

Assistant Mechanical Technician – Nuclear Operations
As the Assistant Mechanical Technician, you will be reporting directly into the Project Engineers / Supervisors, you will be working on a portfolio of projects at various stages of delivery ensuring that project timescales, health & safety and standards are delivered first time, every time. This is a full-time opportunity based on Dungeness Power Station office with travel required to other sites.
