Trainee Project Controls Engineer

Role Characteristics:

Hinkley Point C is the UK’s first new build nuclear power station in a generation that is critical to the UK NetZero targets.

Summary of Role: 

The Trainee Project Controls Engineer will support the Planning & Project Controls team in delivering accurate and consistent reporting across schedule, cost, and performance data. The role focuses on digitisation of existing systems, integration of SharePoint and Power BI reporting, and supporting the improvement of digital workflows used across the project.
A key part of the role will involve supporting the development and implementation of field systems (e.g. Site Diaries, digital dashboards, Power Apps) and the ongoing optimisation of Common Data Environments (CDEs) such as Asite, Procore, and SharePoint to streamline data flow from site to report.
The position provides a structured entry into the Project Controls discipline, offering hands-on experience in data management, field data capture, performance reporting, and exposure to planning, cost, and risk management.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Support the development, maintenance, and improvement of Power BI dashboards and project performance reports.
  • Assist with the digitalisation and automation of reporting systems using SharePoint and Power Platform tools.
  • Contribute to the design and enhancement of field-based digital systems and CDE interfaces (Asite, Procore, SharePoint)
  • Maintain and validate data within project control systems to ensure information accuracy.
  • Support periodic reporting cycles (weekly/monthly) and contribute to KPI and trend analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency in reporting workflows and propose digital enhancements.
  • Collaborate with planners, cost engineers, and site teams to ensure consistent data collection and reporting practices.
  • Document data processes and support governance and standardisation of reporting structures.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications/ Experience

  • Basic experience with Power BI and SharePoint.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Excel and structured data handling.
  • Analytical mindset with a keen eye for accuracy and process improvement.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Interest in digital tools, field data capture, and reporting systems.
  • Willingness to learn project controls disciplines (planning, cost, risk, reporting

 

Additional Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Experience or education in data analysis, project management, or engineering.
  • Familiarity with CDE platforms (Asite, Procore, SharePoint).
  • Exposure to field data systems such as Power Apps or site diary tools.
  • Understanding of Primavera P6 or interest in developing planning system knowledge.
  • Demonstrated interest in digital transformation and process standardisation.

 

Working Pattern of Attendance and Location(s):

  • Option of 9-day fortnight / 5 day working week
  • Based at Hinkley Point C and/or Aztec West Bristol Office
