To support the Trust’s ambition to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2030, it appointed Dalkia to lead a comprehensive carbon reduction scheme at North Tyneside General Hospital (NTGH). The project involved implementing a range of sustainable engineering solutions to reduce the hospital’s carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency.
The NTGH site is a 55,000m2 acute hospital which includes a full range of diagnostic testing, outpatient clinics and facilities for care of the elderly.
The project replaced fossil fuel-based heating and cooling systems with low carbon alternatives, including large-scale heat pumps, a site wide de-steam to low temperature hot water, a 1MW solar PV system, upgrading the HV ring, retrofitting HVAC and updating buildings with cavity wall insulation and double-glazed windows.
The NTGH carbon reduction programme has demonstrated how a unified and collaborative approach can lead to transformative changes. Dalkia will also deliver the long-term operation and maintenance contract, this ensures the sustainability of the implemented solutions and providing stability to the hospital’s energy infrastructure.
Dalkia supported the Trust with a comprehensive study and assessment to determine the heat and energy decarbonisation strategy. They were side-by-side with us to develop a successful PSDS application that liberated much needed funds to decarbonise our infrastructure.
