Dalkia has successfully delivered the £11m lighting upgrade for the iconic Queensway Tunnel, modernising its infrastructure with state-of-the-art LED lighting and reducing its carbon output by an impressive 60% each year.
This transformational project underscores Dalkia’s commitment to excellence and sustainability, marking a significant step forward in achieving a net zero transport network for the Liverpool City Region.
The project, which involved the installation of 1,058 LED lights, 230 electricity distribution boards, and over 100,000 metres of power cabling, was completed ahead of schedule thanks to the dedication and expertise of the Dalkia Project Team.
In a special ceremony, Cllr Steve Foulkes, Chair of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Transport Committee, officially switched on the new lighting system, celebrating the modernisation of the 90-year-old tunnel. “The £11m lighting upgrade in the Queensway Tunnel is not only essential for maintaining this vital structure but also a crucial step in our pledge to make our city region net zero by 2035. Completing these works ahead of schedule is a testament to the exceptional work of the project team,” he said.
