Technical Leader

As a Technical Leader you will be a senior person within the Technical Management team, forming part of the wider technical community driving technical excellence in Dalkia Engineering Ltd, underpinning our mission to become the UK’s number one technical solutions provider.

The technical community supports Dalkia UK Engineering and Dalkia UK Group businesses across all sectors and parts of a project life cycle, providing a wealth of development and role opportunities.

Your role will see you collaboratively managing stakeholder relationships internally, such as bid teams, commercial teams and operational teams along with external stakeholder relationships such as clients, consultant partners, supply chain and manufacturers.

You are expected to follow corporate governance and process at all times and uphold the behaviours and values expected within Dalkia Engineering.

As a Technical Leader you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the delivery of effective design and technical management across multiple projects. You will provide a focus for and lead the pre-construction phase design processes. You will oversee the processes that enable the design and engineering to be challenged and interrogated within a collaborative team framework.

The role focuses on setting up projects technically and derisking them in the preconstruction phase to reduce onsite engineering and uncertainty in design and cost.

You will have a passion for complex engineering, design and collaboration and excellent communication skills.

Main responsibilities and key outcomes

  • Has overall technical responsibility within their region/project(s) for the pre-construction phase design processes, liaising with the client, the design team, the in-house bid team, supply chain and the Dalkia operations team.
  • Responsible for setting up and monitoring the technical strategy/ technical deliverables plan for all projects within their region/project(s). Including technical reviews and delivery of the preconstruction phase in accordance with Dalkia’s PDS.
  • Ensures that design and technical risks on projects are identified, managed and mitigated to conclusion
  • Ensures that the relevant internal and external specialists are introduced to the project team at the appropriate time on bids and during preconstruction e.g. offsite MMC, sprinkler designers and other CDP.
  • Ensures that designs are properly co-ordinated and communicated.
  • Understands, plans, manages and discharges Dalkia’s associated technical obligations under the Building Safety Act and CDM
  • Ensures compliance with relevant Technical Standards, Regulations, Industry norms, good practice, engineering system safety i.e. CDM, BSA, Approved documents etc
  • Manages/oversees the design development and integration of value engineering and change
  • Identifies the design needs of project, sets and manages consultant deliverables and fees to align with Dalkia’s pricing, procurement, construction and DRM/BG6 deliverables

Desired qualifications and experience:

Qualifications: BEng or Meng/MSc in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering or related building services degree

Professional Registration: Incorporated or Chartered status (or working towards) with CIBSE, IET, IMechE or other related institution.

Experience: minimum 10 years in design related building services engineering role  Sector Experience: Healthcare, commercial, leisure, MOD/MOJ preferable.

Project value: Comfortably able to manage projects with £5-50M MEP value
