Community Spotlight: Dalkia’s GKN Filton team transform Horfield CEVC Primary School’s shed into a reading room

Each year Dalkia employees are given a community day to volunteer their time and connect with our local communities. So far this year we have seen many fantastic community days that will help make a positive impact on society.

In July 2023, the Imtech group company rebranded to Dalkia.

Earlier this year, Derek A Taylor (GKN Account Director) and his team from GKN Filton worked with Horfield CEVC Primary School to transform a shed into a reading room, with the purpose to give the children a relaxing environment to read in.

The team spent two days transforming the shed, they painted the inside and outside, installed a new laminate flooring and assembled a bookshelf. At the end of the project, the team was able to stand back and admire the special space that they had created for the children, an environment that encourages peace and tranquillity.

With enormous thanks to Dalkia, our school children will now be able to enjoy the use of a brightly painted cabin as a reading room for years to come. Even as a community project, Dalkia maintained a professional attitude throughout. Great work.

Richard Bowyer, Caretaker of Horfield.

“Volunteering at Horfield Primary School was rewarding as it means the children now have a pleasant and quiet place to go, grab a book, and get lost in the storytelling and their imagination. To know that I have contributed something so small, but important is very rewarding. I would like to thank the Dalkia employees that assisted with the reading cabin, (Wayne Chapman, John Delaney, and Derek Taylor) as well as the other volunteers that assisted on the day, Michael Jones and Kevin Gill,” commented Derrick Jones, Site Supervisor of GKN.

Well done to the GKN team, the reading room looks like an exciting and relaxing place for the children to read their books in. We are proud to see so many of you investing back into our local communities. It is heart-warming to witness the positive impact the transformation has on the children’s school experience and how enjoyable the project was for everyone who was involved.
